Reservation Platform, Orchestrating Service at Scale

Service centers can issue 40 appointment types. The booking system knew about three. This is how that changed.

The gap between booking and reality

Tegeta's service centers do real, complex work, escalations, maintenance, and automotive services. The booking platform customers saw reflected almost none of that complexity. It operated on a simplified mental model of what an appointment was, ignoring whether the service was actually available, at the right location, with a technician who had the right skills.

Limited time slots

Real availability is a function of technician capacity, equipment, and service type, not empty calendar slots

Service bay capacity

Each service type has different spatial and time requirements that a basic calendar booking couldn't represent

Technician specialization

Appointments needed to match not just available time slots but the specific skills each service demanded

Location-specific rules

What's available at one center may not be at another, the system had to reflect this dynamically

Platform logic over UI patches

The rebuild started at the logic layer. Service-type-based location logic was introduced so available options changed based on what service was requested and which location was selected. Slot availability was calculated dynamically from technician availability, service duration, and actual center capacity. These were orchestration decisions made before any customer-facing design could responsibly be built.

Availability is dynamically generated based on service type, duration, and actual capacity. Booking became data-driven rather than manually selectable, customers could only book slots the system had verified were genuinely available.

How it connects to the rest

Booking is no longer a standalone feature,it's a system node. The Reservation Platform now connects with Retail purchase flows, B2B fleet servicing, and after-purchase notifications. A customer who bought tires enters booking with their vehicle profile pre-loaded. A B2B fleet manager can coordinate multiple vehicle appointments. The platform connects the physical service network to the digital customer journey rather than sitting alongside it.
